Hong Kong hosted the 2005 WTO meeting. This was the
bright idea of the HK government. The Hong Kong Chief Executive and
Security minister later complained about the violence - but you have to
wonder what they were thinking when they offered to host it. With Korea only 4 hours away Korean farmer protesters arrived in their hundreds. They were good at getting media attention as well as winning over the spectators. I have to admire their dedication, although I suspect they are ultimately doomed. I don't have any photos of the violent evening protests. I was tear-gassed along with several hundred other spectators on the Marsh Road flyover - a first for me. View Photos >> |
