WTO Protests - Hong Kong - December 2005

Hong Kong hosted the 2005 WTO meeting. This was the bright idea of the HK government. The Hong Kong Chief Executive and Security minister later complained about the violence - but you have to wonder what they were thinking when they offered to host it.

With Korea only 4 hours away Korean farmer protesters arrived in their hundreds. They were good at getting media attention as well as winning over the spectators. I have to admire their dedication, although I suspect they are ultimately doomed.

I don't have any photos of the violent evening protests. I was tear-gassed along with several hundred other spectators on the Marsh Road flyover - a first for me.
