Hawai'i (The Big Island) - December 2001

If you want an interesting and educational holiday; safe and easy to get around, good accommodation and food; then I highly recommend visiting the Big Island in Hawaii.

There are not many places where in one week you can: snorkel; hike through steaming craters; watch lava running into the sea; see new island building in progress; walk through rainforests; drive up the highest mountain in the world and look through a telescope at the universe through the clearest air on the planet.  All this starts every morning with fresh muffins, papaya and lime, and freshly brewed Kona coffee.

Here are my impressions from a visit in December 2001 and ideas for a 4-7 day visit to the island.
