If you haven't seen a traditional Icelandic turf farmhouse by now, then this reconstruction off highway 32 close to the Highway 26 junction is worth visiting.
Hekla
Using 2WD you can drive by on highway 26 and look at the devastated landscape around the volcano (see below). Access would be by 4WD only. I would think it's best to either take a tour or get good local advice before attempting to approach Hekla.
