Skógar

Skógar is home to the most comprehensive folk museum in Iceland. It's also a possible finishing point for the Landmannalaugar/Ţórsmörk hiking trail.

The Skógar folk museum is the creation of Ţórđur Tómasson who has been collecting artifacts in the area since he was a kid. There is a good chance you will meet him as he plays an active role in the running of the museum. Several farmhouses have been relocated to the site and there is a transport museum; enough to spend several hours browsing through. There are regular guided tours through the collection.
