Hyderabad India - September 2002

The twin-cities of Hyderabad-Secunderabad make an interesting short stop if you are passing through on the way to Southern India. It's a historic city and there are several worthwhile sights.

Charminar

Built by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah in 1591 to commemorate the end of the plague. It's the surrounding market that's the main attraction.

Golconda Fort

Founded in the 13th century and later expanded by the Qutb Shahi kings. It's the main attraction in the area.
The one-day tour is worthwhil
e for the guide's explanation and it will probably include the Qutb Shahi tombs and perhaps also the Salar Jung Museum. However with a good guidebook it would be easy to hire a taxi-driver for the day and do it yourself.
