El Nido

This is Palawan's most famous attraction with its limestone peak scenery rising out of the water. There is a compact budget-traveller/ backbacker-oriented town (the package tourists stay at resorts on the islands dotted around El Nido.) It's a good place to stay a few days and take day-trips out snorkeling or to secluded white-sand beaches.

Accommodation was tight because of Chinese New Year and I stayed in "Lally and Abets" guesthouse at the end of the town. It was relatively expensive and noisy with the huts packed together. Actually I don't recommend it. Later I met a French couple who stayed at a quiet guesthouse around the bay to the left of the photo below.

My snorkeling day-trip group stopped at this beach for 2 hours. The crew grilled up fish on the beach and we had lunch. On the next beach over a couple from one of the expensive island resorts had been left for the day. They came over because they didn't have any food or water. It seemed quite careless of the resort, but just then the resort boat arrived. They setup a table and rattan chairs on the sand and enough food for 5 people then left them to it.
